You’re a photographer, not a sales person, right?
Well, we could argue about that one all day but, truth is, you’re a pro and you need to make a good income to feed your family, buy new kit and travel the world.
I know so many good photographers who are just over broke because they have never pay attention to sales and marketing. For some reason, a lot of photographers think that sales is ‘beneath’ them. They think that good photography will sell itself.
That isn’t how it works. If you want to make it as a photographer, you must learn business skills: financial management, staff management and sales skills.
If I was asked to recommend just one book to start someone on their journey to learning how to make more money from photography, ‘Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini‘ would be it.
It’s sold over three million copies and has been translated into thirty languages!
I first read it over 20 years ago. It’s a classic. I read it at least once a year and every time it helps me come up with new ways that I can improve my income and sales.
Here’s a YouTube video that gives a great overview of the contents of the book.
